The Guamá tourist center, an atypical villa located on wooden stilts in the Treasure Lagoon, in the Zapata Swamp, exhibits a renewed image and is waiting for normality to resume service to the numerous clients who prefer the site for vacations.

With a restored swimming pool and a completely renovated restaurant, the works, in charge of the Ministry of Tourism's real estate agency, has already concluded around 20 cabins, half of the existing ones in the six islands that make up the original hotel, which was founded in 1962.

Pedro Martín, commercial specialist of the Boca-Guamá complex, in the largest and best-preserved wetland of the insular Caribbean, explained that the wooden roads that link the different facilities over the water have also received maintenance, and the furniture and hydraulic installations of the famous villa are totally new.

Guamá is home to the Taino Village, the work of Rita Longa, an outstanding Cuban plastic artist, who recreated in large-scale figures a primitive community, the main attraction for nature- and history-loving tourists.

The landscaping and sculptures were also restored, and the second part of the work remains, consisting of all the cabins.

To get to Guamá you have to travel eight kilometers by speedboat or catamaran through the channel that flows into the Laguna del Tesoro, a real adventure among the exotic vegetation. (Bárbara Vasallo, ACN)
