A Cuban delegation participated in the 27th Moscow International Tourism Fair (MITT 2021), under strict sanitary security measures due to Covid-19, and promoted the Island as a safe destination and a place with possibilities for foreign investment.

Cuba's Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García Granda, headed the delegation made up of presidents and vice presidents of hotel chains that participated in that commercial exchange.

Juan Carlos Escalona, tourism attaché of the Cuban embassy in Russia, told Prensa Latina that since November 2020, when travel from Russia resumed after months of border closures due to Covid-19, some 30,000 Russians have arrived in the Jardines del Rey cays.

He added that currently the Russian airlines arriving to Jardines del Rey are Nordwing and Azur Air, covering operations of the tour operators Pegas Touristik, Coral Travel and Anex Tours and noted that the possibility of flying to other Cuban tourist destinations is being negotiated.

Garcia Granda stressed that Cuba has the health safety conditions required to receive more tourists from the Russian outbound market, which "has been gaining positions for Cuban tourism. In 2019 it reached fourth place and is currently competing with Canada for first place."

He assured that "it has possibilities of growing much more in Cuba towards new destinations" among them the resorts of Varadero, Santa María cay and those in Holguín province.

He acknowledged that all Cuban tourist poles promoted at the Fair comply with the sanitary safety conditions required to receive Russian visitors, with validity of the protocols for the protection of tourists against Covid-19. (ACN)
