Preserving the health and safety of tourists and workers in the leisure industry is a purpose of Cuba's Ministries of Tourism and Public Health, in accordance with the dictates of the world's health and tourism organizations, and to that end they have conceived the Tourism + Health and Safety Certification (T+HS).

    To date, 1,543 T+HS certifications have been granted, which correspond to a total of 2,164 accommodation, extra-hotel, support and administrative facilities that comply with the strict health and safety protocols established.

   The official site of the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, www.mintur.gob.cu, details the protocols and measures that vacationers who want to travel to the island should know.

   Among them are the obligation of physical distance; cleaning and disinfection of hands and surfaces; daily health and temperature controls for tourists and workers; and clinical-epidemiological surveillance during the stay of clients in hotels with the presence of doctors, nurses and technicians in hygiene and epidemiology, 24 hours a day.

   Independently of these measures, the following protocols have been arranged to be fulfilled by the tourists who arrive to Cuba, such as having a negative result of RT-PCR test, carried out 72 hours before the trip, certified by laboratories in the countries of origin.

   When arriving to the country, to carry out a diagnostic test of the COVID-19 RT-PCR, free of charge, they should also have an insurance policy that covers the COVID-19 or acquire it when arriving to the country, in the airport, for 30 USD or its equivalent in another freely convertible currency

When they arrive at the accommodation facility, the use of the mask is mandatory until the RT-PCR test result is known

   If any respiratory symptoms are present, the affected person should contact the facility's health personnel.

   In the case of tourists staying at hotel facilities that require this RT-PCR test for their return to their country of origin, they can request it from the medical staff of the hotel where they are staying, preferably upon arrival at the facility. Payment for the test will be made by credit or debit card.

   Security has traditionally been one of the attributes taken into consideration by travelers when selecting their vacation destination. Nowadays, this security has taken on a new meaning; the hygienic and sanitary security of tourist destinations is fundamental when faced with a travel decision.

   "Generating trust to those who visit us and complying with the new requirements in terms of hygiene, health and safety are priorities of the tourist activity in Cuba", states the note published by the Ministry of Tourism. (ACN)
