plazamarte   The Plaza de Marte, one of the busiest public spaces in Santiago de Cuba, is imaginatively considered the gateway to the Historic Center of the city, where three of the most important streets of the city: Aguilera, Garzón and Enramadas, converge, the latter converted into a Heritage Corridor for pedestrian traffic to the La Alameda seawall promenade.

Since colonial times it has a lot to tell, since in the 18th century the esplanade was used for the training of the troops of the metropolis, then in the so-called Field of Mars in reference to the God of war in Greek mythology.

The Plaza de Marte reached its true peak in the twentieth century when shops, lodgings and other establishments opened in its surroundings, some still remain such as the Libertad hotel.

Currently, in its surroundings there are options to enjoy music, a good coffee or tea and gastronomic offers at the Iris Jazz Club Cultural Complex, the Los Dos Abuelos Patio, the Mama Inés Café and the Casa del Vino (Wine House).

In addition to the La Fraternidad Chocolate House; the Ven La Gran Sofía Café; the Sindo Garay store, for the sale of musical instruments; and the La Scala de Milano pizzeria, the latter in a building with modern features from a structural and urban point of view.

The Hiroshima Judo Academy, the famous Sports Club that takes its name, the El Sol bakery, the La Primera Caridad ideal market and other sale points complete the environment of the busy place. (Marlene Montoya, ACN)
