diaturismo   Next September 27 Cuba will join the celebration for the World Tourism Day under the slogan of Tourism and Rural Development, and does so by prioritizing more hygienic and safer actions for the sector, amid the scourge of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cuba's limited opening to the leisure industry provides a bit of the economic oxygen that the nation requires, but the decision offers full guarantees to life, as demonstrated by the first experiences at Jardines del Rey destination (in the keys north of the central province of Ciego de Avila), where tourists from the Bahamas and Canada have already recognized the quality of the services and the respect of health protocols to avoid contagion.

This international event has been held annually since 1980 and was welcomed on that date because on a similar day in 1970 the Statutes of the World Tourism Organization were adopted, whose approval is considered a milestone. The main purpose of this initiative is to promote knowledge about their social, cultural, political and economic values.

Jointly, several MERCOSUR nations will centralize the events of this year, when it is clear that the tourism branch today is far from being that first magnitude dynamic shift, which contributed 10% of global GDP, 6% of the total of exports and generated one out of every 11 jobs on the planet.
