Despite the presence of the COVID-19 in Cuba, which limits the provision of tourist services, the Punta Perdiz International Diving Center, in the Zapata Swamp, is consolidated in 2020 as the most visited extrahotel facility in this nature destination in the western province of Matanzas.

Orelvis León Abreu, commercial subdirector of the Ciénaga de Zapata integral tourist company, commented that although the COVID-19 forced the closure of all the entities assigned to the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) in the country, Punta Perdiz since its reopening on June 26th has been visited by a high number of national tourists, reaffirming itself as the most requested extrahotel institution in the peninsula.

Although we do not have a presence in the international market, which provides a high level of income, national tourism has increased its preference for the center, with arrivals from the provinces of Villa Clara, Cienfuegos and Havana, mainly.

Punta Perdiz constitutes one of the 11 environmentally certified diving points in the largest wetland of the insular Caribbean, with one of the best preserved sea beds in the country and therefore its natural attraction, together with a quality service supported by a buffet lunch, barbecue and bar, which every year attracts diving and nature lovers, he said.

Open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., we have two lifeguards and a doctor specialized in underwater medicine, ready to help in case of an accident during diving, so customers feel safe during their stay, said León Abreu. (By Angel Darian Santa Cruz, ACN)
